Holt Renfrew
Toronto, Canada | Gensler, Studio Paolo Ferrari
This retail renovation project for a legacy luxury department store is an exploration in eclecticism and balance. Each section of the floor experiments with different colors, materials, textures, and patterns to create unique identities all while repeating and reproducing common motifs that reinforce a sense of cohesion. In order to unify the lighting experience and consistently feature merchandise, adjustable LED track light fixtures are utilized across a variety of ceiling types and site-specific conditions. The track is strategically placed to provide maximum coverage and flexibility for future displays and store configurations.
The lighting also accentuates distinctive architectural design elements throughout. Perimeter coves are selectively employed to feature rich, wood walls and custom crafted fabric wall coverings. In contrast, backlit luminous ceilings delivery diffuse and voluminous lighting for the fitting area. Flexible linear LED strip lights are seamlessly integrated into millwork to accentuate product and bespoke changing rooms.
The project was designed to comply with ASHRAE 90.1 - 2013. Current limiters are utilized to limit the number of track heads that can be utilized in the store. For after hour conditions, occupancy sensors deactivate lighting throughout to improve fixture longevity and reduce energy consumption further.
